Soda water bottle, America, 1845-1860. Bright, medium sapphire blue, applied sloping collared mouth. Rare in very fine condition.
This unique 8 sided bottle seems to always feel cold and it’s very heavy. It is 7 1/4″ tall and not flat on the bottom so it sits at a bit of an angle. It is impossible to photograph the embossing as hard as I tried. The base is recessed and smooth. The smoothed pontil mark has retained most of it’s iron. This is really interesting (see picture). Here is a wonderful web site I found to explain this. There is the slightest ding that you can put your fingernail in which cannot be felt running your finger over the top and another tiny ding on the side (like a popped bubble). Otherwise it’s perfect.
The embossing reads:
J. Boardman – New York – Mineralwater (one word) – Star
