Description

This original etching portrait of Sir Gilbert Scott was created by Anna Lea Merritt, after the design by George Richmond. It was published in 1880 in the “American Art Review”.

Merritt was born in Philadelphia in 1844 and died in Hampshire, England in 1930. It measures 4 3/4″ x 7 1/2″. It is printed on nineteenth century hand-made paper,  with full margins as published in 1880. It bears the artist’s monogram in the plate on the lower left and inscribed in the plate to the lower right is “Anna Lea Merritt aq. fts. (aqua fortis) after George Richmond – 1879”.  A strongly printed, early impression with full plate tone and in excellent condition.  Buyer pays for shipping.
